I saw an ad on commercial on TV that advertises a small device that connect to your computer and gives telephone service through the internet. It is only about $ 3-4/month.

I don’t know about anyone else on here, but I got Packet8 for over three years now…and love it!!
I pay 199.00 a year!
the first thing I did was called customer service, just to see how long I had to wait….they picked up just after 3 rings….well…that cool….so I called a couple of times thereafter…..never had to wait long…..so that was the test for me….I hate to wait on the phone….like 48 minutes for ATT!!!
then I checked out on the dslreports.com
just to see what everyone is b*t*ing about……..I first wanted to go with SunRocket, but then I choose P8 because they are in the VoIP business for 20 years, and own all the VoIP patent!!
vonage and most other VoIP are renting the VoIP patent….
Broadband from the Internet provider are still to expensive….cox….Time-Warner……comcast….just to much money!

you only can get a naked (dry) line with AT&T if you are a new customer!
try to find a DSL/cable service like earthling.net or Verizon …..Time-Warner……that will give you just Internet service!!
