Easy Ways To Save Your Business Money, From Interns To VoIP Service Providers

By: Mark Etinger
Posted: Feb 01, 2011

What with the economy in its current state, it makes sense that people are trying to save money whenever and wherever they can. If you own a business, you might find that harder and harder, but the truth is, there are a lot of ways to save your company money. Here are some of them:

1. Strike up a deal with local vendors. Say you own a restaurant or clothing shop. Talk to the sales department at a local newspaper or magazine and see if you can trade some advertising space for sale of their publication at your establishment. Or, if you own a venue of some sort, tell them they can hold their annual fundraiser at your place in exchange for half a year’s worth of ads.

2. Speaking of fundraisers, why not have one? Just because you’re a paper-supply company doesn’t mean you can’t hold a little carnival in the parking lot of your building. Charge a small admission fee (small, but enough that the business will make a profit on the sales), and show people how to have fun!

3. Hire interns. Interns are great because a.) they’re free, and b.) you can assign them pretty much any job you need done. It’s a win-win for everyone — they’re getting lots of experience, and you’re getting free labor. Of course, a little extra incentive is always nice, like travel or lunch fare, and there’s no reason not to reward them with little something extra at the end of their semester. It could be a gift, or even a small stipend. (Interns, too, are looking for a way to save money.) Even if you give them a couple hundred dollars you’ll still be paying way less than you would an actual employee.

4. Switch to a VoIP broadband phone. VoIP services are much less expensive than traditional copperwire phone systems, and they’re far more convenient because you can use them right in conjunction with you computer, or, if you prefer a simpler transition, you can get the handsets that look like regular phones.

5. Cut down on unnecessary costs. Don’t just say you’re going to do this — really do it. Sit down with the head of each of the company’s departments and figure out ways you can cut down on things like electricity, water use, and any unnecessary frills that are currently in place. Water coolers, for example, are a nice, but unneeded luxury. If you want clean, cold water, get a Brita filter and keep it in the refrigerator — cold water can easily become hot in the microwave or on a stovetop.

Also, make sure that all the lights and computers are turned off at night. Anything that doesn’t need to be on while no one’s in the office shouldn’t be. It might be more convenient to just leave a computer on all the time, but it’s an energy sucker.

There you have it — five simple ways to cut the costs of your business significantly. Well, what are you waiting for? Get to interviewing those interns and calling your local VoIP service providers!

Need To Save Money? Best Telephone Service At Lowest Cost

Most of us today are looking for ways to cut back on expenses. With a struggling global economy and a general feeling of financial unease, people are finding the need to reign in their spending and reduce their monthly payments. However, one likely candidate for saving money is often overlooked: your home telephone service.

How can your home phone save you money? By switching to a home video phone. Here’s how: video phones cost about the same amount of money as a regular cordless phone to buy, but their monthly service fee is significantly less than regular home phone service, which ends up saving you hundreds of dollars every year! How can this be?

Video phones are new to the market, so companies offering them are working hard to build up their  customer base. Therefore these companies will offer a superior service, packed with numerous standard features all included, not to mention the video aspect itself, all for a lower monthly price than what most Americans pay for a very basic regular telephone service.

Video phones have leaped into the future, establishing themselves as the undisputed leader in home phone service by operating via the Internet as opposed to running over old fashioned landlines. Because these phones use the Internet for calls they have become a digital service. Being digital transmits a faster, higher quality service, thus making possible the actual video feature.  Every industry has already, or is in the process of becoming digital. Music, TV’s, cameras are all currently digital. Home phones are just now making the transition.

Most telephone companies who have already made the switch have created what’s known as a Voice Over Internet Protocol system, or VOIP for short. However, VOIP only allows for audio. What sets the video phone apart is it adds on the real-time video function in addition to audio. For the first time ever you can experience seeing as well as talking to a person from your home telephone. This opens up a  whole new world of possibilities. Imagine seeing whoever is on the other end with your own eyes, in the exact moment you’re speaking with them! You never have to miss out again! This one technique, the ability to see, brings forth a plethora of groundbreaking ways to interact and connect with your loved ones.

And remember, all of this is available at a price less (or sometimes even free) than what most Americans currently pay!

How to Save Money with PRI Phone System Lines

PRI telephone line services offer substantial savings for business phone systems, PBX and VoIP phone systems.

Businesses that have more than a few outside lines should consider PRI trunk lines to connect from your building to the local telephone office. Why? With each individual POTS or (Plain OLD Telephone Service) there are termination and surcharges and taxes. After a few line charges there is a savings to be realized in consolidating individual phone lines into a single T1 line that makes digital lines more cost effective than a collection of analog phone lines.

When should a company consider PRI Service

Any company that has over 4 lines and requires high speed internet access is a very good candidate for an integrated PRI. With only 4 lines there may not be a real cost savings but there are other advantages including highly reliable high speed internet access, Caller ID, time of day routing of 800# and failsafe routing of calls in case of emergency service loss.

There are several flavors of T-1 line services to be aware of. A standard T-1 telephone trunk offers up to 24 individual phone lines all digitized and multiplexed into two pair of copper wires that connect back to the telephone company’s central office. Your business phone systems can connect to a T1 through an integrated T1 circuit card they maybe available through your phone system or through a router that brings the T1 channels in to your phone system as if they were POTS lines. T1 and PRI integration cards are pretty much a standard option for any new PBX phones such as Avaya phone systems or Nortel and you can likely order a plug-in T-1 card for older systems.

What is PRI?

PRI or Primary Rate Interface is an ISDN equivalent of a T1 circuit and it’s part of the ISDN or Integrated Services Digital Network specifications. A regular channelized T-1 line and a T-1 PRI line are pretty much the same animal, with one important difference. PRI lines offer 23 rather than 24 phone lines and use the remaining channel to provide signaling and data. You need a PRI line if you want Caller ID for your phones. For Pri service a PRI module is needed for your PBX or phone system.

Integrated Voice and Data Circuits Provide Both Phone and Internet

Another variation is called T-1 Integrated service. Integrated means that the line carries both telephone calls and Internet data. That’s right, you can split a T-1 line so that you can have a dozen outside phone lines plus broadband Internet service coming in on the same line. This is quite a cost saver for most small businesses that need both phone and reliable Internet service. Some of these Integrated services are called dynamic T-1 lines because they automatically assign all the bandwidth not needed for active phone calls to the Internet service. Integrated voice and data circuits represent one of the best values for phone service delivering voice, data and features including Direct In Ward Dial, Caller ID, Dynamic Port Allocation, Fail Safe Routing and many other features on a single inexpensive 4 wire circuit.

What about VoIP phones?

VoIP phones use IP telephony within the company so that the phones can connect to the IP PBX system using standard Ethernet cabling. Many use the same LAN as the company’s computers to save on wiring costs. All the in-house calls go from phone to phone over the network. But outside calls still have to connect or terminate to the PSTN or Public Switched Telephone Network. Most often that interface is within the IP PBX system or voice gateway. The most common phone line interface is the T-1 or T-1 PRI digital phone line, just like conventional PBX systems.

Another option that’s not quite as widely deployed is to connect your phones to a VoIP service provider in IP format directly from your network. The service provider takes care of terminating calls to the PSTN. The network connection from your company to the service provider is called a SIP Trunk and is most often a type of T-1 line set up to be unchannelized to transport voice packets.

The New Price Advantage of Digital PRI Lines

You should know that Digital PRI prices are lower now than they’ve ever been. If you’re still using analog phone lines connected to your PBX telephone system, it may well be worth your while to convert to one or more T-1 or T-1 PRI lines. If you already have T-1 service, then you should get a competitive quote to see how much you might save on your next contract.

How To Save Money With Internet Phones (VoIP)

phone voip
by Br3nda

You may have heard a lot about Internet Phones and wondered if they are right for your home or business. At this point you probably have a number of questions on the benefits, the type of equipment needed, startup costs, the savings, and how it sounds. In the following paragraphs we will cover these items and more.

Internet Phone (VoIP) service lets you replace your traditional landlines with line that utilizes your home or office internet connection. If you are currently using a landline, you phone uses a Public Switched Telephone Network. This is a costly private network that comes directly into your home through a phone jack. With an VoIP Phone our phone connects to the Internet through the internet service provider you already have. This connection is made possible by using an adapter that plugs into your modem. The adapter allows your phone conversation to be translated into IP packets and sent over the internet. Calls can be made to landline or other phones connected over the internet. You are able to use your phone in the same way, but the network and technology is simply upgraded.

One of the main reasons this service is becoming popular is the savings. Having an Internet Phone is much cheaper than paying for a traditional landline. Many Internet Phone calling plans cost as little as .95 a month. These plans normally provide unlimited calling and a number of calling features that would cost extra with a traditional landline. Savings are also available for international callers. Cheaper calling plans with more calling features are a big win-win. In addition to great rates, most services do not require contract. So you can leave at any time.

You will need two things to get started with Internet Phones service. The first is a reliable internet connection. A minimum of 512kb is recommended. The second is an adapter that comes with the service. You can use your existing phone so no further equipment is needed.

How does the Internet Phone service sound? Since phone communication is all about hearing and being heard, sound quality is a primary concern. While this is largely affected by your internet connection, sound quality has seen great improvement since the service first came out.

If you are looking for cheaper rates, unlimited calling plans, great calling features, and no contracts then Internet Phone service might be just what you are looking for.
