Understanding the limitations of the Voice over IP systems

The Voice over IP technology is used by people at different places, on different platforms and in different situations. The VOIP systems are used in the homes, commercial establishments, industries, office set-ups and even by people on the move. The different platforms on which this can be used are the computer systems by making use of the software of the VoIP service provider, the VOIP telephone instruments and even the mobile phone handsets. However, for any of these platforms to be used for this purpose it is important to have internet connectivity, wired or wireless.

There are many benefits of these systems, as are commonly known. These benefits are better call management features including the hold, auto-attendant, routing, forwarding, conferencing and many others. Then, the office phone also has the features which can enable the transfer of files of different formats like text, video and audio over the internet broadband connections. However, there are certain shortcomings of these telephone business systems as well, which shall be well considered before going to buy these.

These voice over IP based home telephone systems or the PBX systems of the offices do need a very quality network connection for operating at their best. The data files and the internet protocol voice data both use the same medium to travel along with the network data. This is made possible because the data is broken down into the smaller packets and it is these packets which actually travel on the bandwidth. If the bandwidth is not broad enough then the connection will either slow down or the communication will cease. There will be issues with the quality of the sound as well. Actually, it is the transfer of the sound files which is not smooth in a less bandwidth connection. If the network does not send the voice data on priority basis, you can have the quality of service routers installed at the locations using the office phone VOIP.  The main use of these routers is to give priority to the voice data when there is network congestion so that the quality of sound does not suffer.

Another point to be duly considered is that of regular upgrades required for the voice over IP systems. Unlike the traditional systems which can be installed and then forgotten, these require upgrades as soon as these are available. For the functioning of these systems, internet is of vital importance. But, there can be glitches with the operation of these networks or there can also be a crash of the servers. In that scenario, there is loss of time and communication connectivity. Even if the staff is adept at quickly reacting to the situation and correcting the problems of the IP PBx systems or any other office phone, the organization do deploy contingency alternative telephone systems, especially for some vital locations. So, having a robust infrastructure for these needs is an important requirement for these systems and these shall be planned very skilfully for the successful and effective functioning of these systems.

Voice Over IP Companies – Key Things You Need to Know

VoIP technology is quickly becoming one of the most preferred telephone service providers for customers seeking a low-cost and high-quality alternative to traditional phone service.

There is one major issue that many customers have when changing from traditional phone services to a Voice over Internet phone service. There are just too many companies and services to choose from.

The first option to consider when changing over to a VoIP provider is the connection speed that you have available. Most voice over IP providers require a minimum DSL speed to provide quality service. This is due to the fact that the voice signal is traveling over the Internet, requiring relatively fast upload and download speeds on the customer’s end to be able to process the calls in real-time.

Generally speaking, having faster bandwidth will ensure a higher quality of any calls that you are making. VoIP from most providers will require a minimum of 38kbps upload speed and 128kbps of download speed.

It is important to know what transfer rates are required by the VoIP provider, as this speed will be an ‘overhead’ on your internet connection line while making a phone call, limiting other internet connection usage whenever you are making a call.

Price is the next most important consideration when searching for a good voice over IP provider. VoIP services vary greatly, depending on who is offering it. General packages are normally much less expensive than comparable phone company rates, and are typically based on the number of lines that you need.

A much more valuable aspect to VoIP is the inclusion of International Calling. Since the information of the call is being directed through the Internet and not through trans-ocean lines of the phone companies, the prices for these calls are very low. Bundled packages for International Calling can be as low as an additional .00 per month with no per-minute calling charges, which is far better than any price package that a traditional phone company can provide. Each VoIP company offers different packages with fairly similar pricing for comparably similar packages.

The next most important thing to look for in a VoIP service is the resilience of the service. Some companies can provide high quality audio and guaranteed uptime that rivals even telephone companies.

However, not all Voice over Internet phone service companies are the same and it is important to research the differences in both call quality and service up-time between the different providers.

Some customers who currently use Fax machines over traditional phone lines may be interested in VoIP services to reduce costs incurred when sending Faxes around the World. First generation VoIP was nearly incapable of transmitting faxes accurately due to the difficulty in transmitting the audio frequencies that fax machines utilize to communicate with one another.

Many services have upgraded the design of their networks to allow for the new T.38 protocol which enables fax machines to ‘speak’ with one another properly over a voice over IP service. Researching the capabilities of different providers is essential if this is a feature that you are interested in using. Doing a little bit of homework on the different providers and comparing their network capabilities, pricing, and service quality will ensure that you get the most out of a conversion to VoIP that is as seamless as possible.

A Beginners Guide on Voice Over Ip Termination

When the Internet was introduced some time back, some of the researchers had predicted that it will eventually lead to convergence of communication. This prediction has come true with the emergence of VoIP. Voice over IP termination as it is known among the technical world, sends the voice in the form of data packets via the Internet by converting analog signals into small digital IP packets. The main advantage of this transmission over the internet is that it completely cuts down the need to maintain optical fiber network, thereby cutting down on the cost of infrastructure.

Benefits of VoIP-

1. Cheaper calls can be made using voice over IP services.

2. Location independent: one can remain in touch with their business or family no matter which part of the globe they are in.

3. Ideal for Mobile workers and virtual contact centers: Its mobility feature makes it convenient for mobile works and virtual contact centers to carry on their operations efficiently and cost-effectively while on the road.

4. Quality is supreme. So one need not bother about echo effects any more.

5. Reliable and secure: With security being in top focus of the providers, there is nothing to worry about in terms of reliability and safety of information.

6. Ease of service: VoIP calls are made using the traditional phones too; as a result it enhances the way you perform without changing the way you function.

Voice over IP telephony or IP telephony offers hosts of services which make it not just convenient but also feasible for all sectors of the industry to integrate it in their communication structure. These services include:

1. VoIP telephony – VoIP makes calling cost-effective and efficient. The quality of service which was initially a matter of concern has greatly improved, competing with that of the traditional mode of communication at present.

2. VoIP reseller programs – There are few premium VoIP service providers who offer reseller plans making it profitable for resellers to venture into this field with negligible investment and minimum risk. White label and gold are the two kinds of plans on offer. White label gives them the advantage of operating VoIP services under their own brand name.

3. Wholesale carrier services – Wholesalers act as a vital link between the service providers and VoIP resellers. They are required to set up the infrastructure needed to route the calls, namely – gateways, switches etc. With VoIP becoming the hot favorite of one and all, wholesalers have a lot to look forward to in terms of revenue generation.

4. VoIP Business solutions – VoIP providers offer a complete business solution to take care of the changing needs of the business houses. They are ideal for contact centres, ISP’s and corporates. They help in providing a cheaper way to network, increase efficiency and ultimately increases the profits.

There is no doubt about VoIP taking over the telecom sector in the coming years. For those who want to attain maximum benefits from VoIP, the time to venture in this field is now!
